Employment requirements for Level 1 certification
The BC Public Health Act states that every food service operator, and at least one employee on every shift, must hold a FOODSAFE Level 1 certificate or equivalent. Check the BC Centre for Disease Control (PDF) to see what courses are equivalent.
FOODSAFE Level 1 is about preventing foodborne illness. It’s also about worker safety on the job. If you prepare, serve, and clean up food, take the course for the safety of both your customers and yourself.
Having your certificate could be an advantage when applying for jobs. Some employers require that all their employees have a FOODSAFE Level 1 certificate.
